Post Project on Matfield Green

The project to replace all the posts around Matfield Green will soon be in progress.  It will take up to two weeks to replace all 280 posts and will mark the perimeter of the Council’s land, verges and around the Pavilion in a uniform and clean sweep.  The Council has discussed this project three times in meetings open to the public since it was first listed the 2025-26 budget, published in 2024, and reference has been made to it in several newsletters, published in Roundabout, on Facebook and on the Website. 

The Council spent a considerable amount of time compiling the options for a specification looking at alternatives that would be visually pleasing but also having reference to cost, durability and environmentally responsible actions.  After much deliberation, the Council has chosen to install brown recycled plastic posts.  They are slightly narrower than the current ones, with a flat top, and will still be linked by a  chain.  Lockable removeable posts will be included in the installation to further provide security from incursion.

It was recognised that some people may initially find the change from wooden posts to be unsettling.   On balance, however, and having regard for the longevity of posts (over 30 years for plastic and only up to 10 for wood), the Council took the decision to follow Horsmonden’s positive experience in installing recycled plastic posts.  These do age over time and the grey/moss look will go some way to match the look of wood.

The benches on the Green are all teak and there are no plans to change this; indeed no more benches are planned for Matfield Green.

The Green together with the pond and the Pavilion have all benefitted from significant attention in recent years and for which a large amount of external funding has been obtained.  The Parish Council therefore hope that this project will be welcomed by the community.
