Residents of Petteridge will all have received a hand delivered leaflet, outlining the progress of the work to install a brand new play area at Porters Wood Recreation Ground. The work to prepare the ground is almost complete, and a very large area of previously unuseable land has been cleared back, in readiness for the installation later this summer. The newly cleared area will be reseeded at an appropriate time, and the space available to walkers and families to enjoy is already much improved. The council also took the opportunity to mount four bird boxes, and left over timber has been left to encourage beetles, and bugs back to the space. It was noted by the clearance crew, that there was a notable absence of wildlife in the brambles. We hope that the careful management of grasses, flowers, trees and bushes going forwards, will encourage more species of insects and wildlife to the area.
There will be a boundary fence erected adjacent to Porters Wood Recreation Ground, and the adjoining land. This is private land and the fence is being erected by the landowner, not the parish council. We are grateful to the land owner for helping us dispose of much of the debris in the clearance process, and ask that the public respect the boundary fence and stick to the Porters Wood Recreation Ground and other local public rights of way. These can be found on an OS map.
We are aiming to create a wonderful, inclusive facility for everyone to enjoy, and look forward to an official opening later this year.
