12th June 2024
The Parish Council are seeking to apply to Kent County Council to claim a Public Right of Way through the former car park / roadway area in front of the Wheelwright Arms. As residents will know, the area has now been closed off so that the development of the building can be started. This is made possible due to the removal of vehicular Highways Rights by KCC. The PC is seeking information on this aspect but please note that at present the area should not be accessed and the building works permitted to progress.
This is a separate issue to the pedestrian right of way and the PC has obtained a number of evidence statements to underpin an application to KCC. This aims to protect a safe route for pedestrians to allow continued access between the common land at Matfield Green and the Village Hall, the public conveniences and the established dropped kerb crossing place over Maidstone Road.
In order to substantiate this, the PC need to demonstrate routes of access over that area that have been used for at least 20 years. Residents are invited to complete evidence forms (see the blank form attached paper copies can be obtained from the Clerk if required) together with a map and the signed declaration and submit these to the Parish Clerk for inclusion in the application. The more that are submitted the better – please send these to the Parish Clerk by the end of June.
